2,100 truck fleet sold to James Richardson & Sons

A Canadian motor carrier with more than 2,000 trucks was acquired by an agriculture conglomerate.

Winnipeg, Manitoba-based Bison Transport Inc. has been acquired by James Richardson & Sons, Limited (JRSL), effective January 1, 2021.

Bison was established in 1969 and is one of the largest trucking companies in Canada, with 3,700 employee and contractors and a fleet of 2,100 tractors and 6,000 trailers operating throughout North America. Bison’s affiliate companies include H.O. Wolding, Searcy Trucking, and Britton Transport.

Company leaders say that the transfer of ownership will not result changes to Bison’s operations or branding.

“Today marks my 30^th anniversary at Bison Transport,” says Bison President & Chief Executive Officer, Rob Penner. “As I take a moment to reflect, I take great pride in what we have accomplished here as a team on behalf of the Jessiman family. Having said that, I think that takes a second seat to the renewed energy and excitement I have for our future as part of the James Richardson & Sons group of companies. I feel great that the business I have had a part in building has secured its future with such a great organization.”
