Creating Your Own Home Away from Home in Your Cab

Living in a truck cab for days or weeks at a time can be a challenging experience. With the right strategies, though, you can make your truck cab feel more like home. Here are five tips for creating your own home away from home in your semi cab:

Bring comfortable items from home to decorate and make the space feel more familiar. Hang up photos of family and friends and add sentimental items from home that will help you stay connected when you are on the road. On the topic of comfort, invest in a comfortable mattress. Your back will thank you.

Customize the area to your tastes by adding interior accessories that you like. You could even add cozy carpeting for a soft, plush, feel of home. You’ll want to maximize the limited space, so items that can pull double duty are a huge plus like a mini fridge that doubles as bedside table, for example. Last, for added privacy at night, window shades are always nice.

Take advantage of modern technology to stay entertained and connected with loved ones while out on the road. Apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp and Skype can help us connect to our loved ones when we are away, making us feel more at home in our cab’s sleeper. Most sleeper areas should also have room for televisions and video game systems so you can keep up with your favorite shows or spend some quality time with your PlayStation along your routes.

Keep it clean and organized by having designated areas for trash and emptying the trash regularly. Leave your shoes in the front of the cabin so you’re not bringing dirt, mud, or snow into your sleeping quarters. Having a clean and organized space has been proven to positively affect our mental health and increase feelings of wellbeing which in turn helps us feel more relaxed.

Establish healthy habits while on the road by setting a regular sleeping schedule and stocking up on healthy snacks to fuel your body during long trips. Making sure you get enough rest is key to staying safe while driving long distances, so it’s important to stick to this routine even when it feels difficult!

Bring your pet along for the ride. A dog or cat can make a great road companion and give you someone to snuggle with at the end of a long day.

By following these tips and personalizing your truck cab as much as possible, you will be able to create a unique “home away from home” wherever life takes you on the road.
