Expect to see more police in 5 states along I-81 throughout this week

If your route will take you on Interstate 81 this week, please expect to see more than the normal amount of law enforcement. According to Trucker News the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said there will be extra enforcement on the heavily traveled interstate up until June 24. Patrols are said to increase on I-81 in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. Police will be looking for unsafe driving behaviors, including speeding, following too closely, distracted driving and more.

The purpose of this is to encourage and focus on creating safe habits not only for commercial motor vehicles but also passenger vehicles around them. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has said that I-81 is one of the most heavily traveled highways on the eastern side of the United States. The article reports 3,200 collisions in 2019-2020 involving commercial motor vehicles in the key states mentioned above.
