Following a social media poll where users voted, a rideshare company offering armed drivers is preparing to debut in several Texas cities. The founder, Kerry KingBrown, aims to ensure that customers “have peace of mind” when using the service.
New Launch in Texas
BlackWolf, a pioneering app that connects riders with drivers who are armed and have backgrounds in law enforcement, will soon operate in Houston, Dallas, and Austin. This expansion is planned for early 2025, after successful launches in other cities like Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, and Phoenix, where the app has already been downloaded by over 300,000 users.
Origins and Motivation
The concept for BlackWolf originated from a conversation KingBrown had with a former client who survived human trafficking. She suggested creating a safer transportation option for vulnerable individuals. KingBrown recalled, “The idea came from one of my clients that I was transporting; she was caught in human trafficking for about three years…she gave me the idea and said you need to create something, some type of transportation for people like me and my daughter,” as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
Driver Qualifications
The drivers for BlackWolf not only carry weapons but are also thoroughly vetted. According to KingBrown, “Those who are armed are licensed, they are vetted, and most of them are ex-military or law enforcement. Those people understand how to carry a weapon. They’ve been trained with it.” Additionally, these drivers receive training in de-escalation techniques, ensuring that using a firearm is a last resort.
Recruitment and Launch
With recruitment underway for qualified drivers in Texas, BlackWolf is preparing to provide a unique rideshare experience that prioritizes safety and security. The app’s expansion into Texas is eagerly anticipated by both the company and its future users.
