With the holiday travel season fast approaching, U.S. motorcoach operators are poised for a potential increase in passengers, courtesy of a strategic partnership between Busbud and Walmart+.
The collaboration introduces a compelling offer for Walmart+ members—a $10 cash-back reward for booking intercity bus trips via Busbud. This initiative is designed to boost seat occupancy for bus operators throughout the nation.
Busbud’s Strategic Move
Busbud, a Montreal-based global booking platform, has revealed a trial partnership with the retail giant Walmart+. “We want to help our partners, especially bus operators, fill empty seats,” explained Marin Vallee, VP of Global Distribution at Busbud. “With this new partnership, we’re aligning with Walmart+ to tap into a vast customer base, right as millions of Americans are making travel plans for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.”
Through this alliance, Walmart+ members can enjoy $10 Walmart Cash post-travel completion, enhancing the appeal of intercity bus travel during the bustling holiday period.
Walmart+ & Peak Travel Period
The timing of this partnership is crucial. AARP data suggests over 55 million Americans will travel beyond 50 miles for Thanksgiving, with an additional 115 million expected to travel during the broader holiday season. By targeting this period, Busbud’s partnership with Walmart+ encourages members to opt for bus travel instead of cars or planes.
“For operators, this partnership offers valuable visibility,” Vallee noted. “The Walmart+ collaboration gives motorcoach companies a unique chance to attract passengers who may not have considered bus travel but who appreciate convenience and savings.”
Busbud’s platform provides travelers with the ability to compare various bus operators, read reviews, and secure tickets for routes offered by major carriers, including Greyhound, FlixBus, and Trailways, in addition to regional operators.
Sustainability and Affordability
For smaller bus companies, exposure through Walmart+ could bring significant benefits, presenting a fresh stream of potential passengers. Vallee also highlighted the environmental advantages of opting for bus travel.
“Buses are a much more sustainable option than flying or driving alone. By filling more seats, we’re not only helping operators but also supporting eco-friendly travel,” he emphasized.
The $10 cash-back incentive is exclusively available to Walmart+ members in the U.S. until January 7 and is included in the Walmart+ membership benefits at no extra cost.
Vallee expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential, stating, “This partnership offers a valuable opportunity to align with a well-known brand, and we believe it’s only the beginning.”
