Evan Anderson Teams Up with Initek Consulting to Transform Bus Industry Tech

Evan Anderson, VP and COO of Anderson Coach & Travel, is partnering with Initek Consulting to transform bus industry operations. Learn about real-time data innovations, digital integrations, and the future of motorcoach technology.

Evan Anderson, the VP and COO of Anderson Coach & Travel in Pennsylvania, is taking on a new venture alongside his current role. He has joined forces with Initek Consulting as a strategic advisor, aiming to revolutionize the bus industry by equipping motorcoach operators with real-time data for more informed decisions.

Having partnered with Initek and adopted their Fleet Integrations platform since February 2023, Anderson is firm in his belief that the tool offers unparalleled resources and insights for optimizing motorcoach operations. His new advisory role allows him to infuse his operational knowledge into the development of solutions that tackle the challenges bus companies frequently encounter.

“My overall goal with Initek is to help the entire industry harness the power of real-time data,” Anderson states.

Ben O’Day, CEO of San Diego-based Initek Consulting, remarks, “Evan has established himself as a leading technology advocate for the bus industry. His deep understanding of operations and our software’s capabilities makes him an invaluable partner in driving innovation.”

Advancements in Digital Solutions

Specializing in the integration of telematics and operational software for the bus sector, Initek has collaborated with Anderson to swap outdated paper-based systems with modern, digital solutions. Among the features that have been introduced are automated alerts for drivers and customers, ensuring smooth and efficient communication.

“The alerts instantly improved our customer and driver relations, as well as improved our safety and efficiency across the board,” Anderson says.

Additionally, the Vehicle Status Manager allows monitoring teams to access real-time updates on the fleet’s conditions, facilitating effective management of dispatch, maintenance, and cleaning tasks.

“One of the biggest changes we’ve made is replacing whiteboards and paper with a real-time digital display board,” Anderson highlights. “It’s transformed how we prioritize the schedule of our vehicles entering our wash bay and the garage. This saves us time and headaches as it automatically accommodates last-minute vehicle changes.”

By integrating Samsara telematics and TBN’s operational software, Anderson has further enhanced communications and business processes.

“Data has become essential to how we operate. Better information flow gives us clarity and allows us to make smarter decisions,” he explains. “We’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible when pairing the (actual) vehicle’s telematics to the (planned) operational software. Comparing the two (the actual vs the planned) is powerful, and we haven’t seen a revolution in our industry since the installation of on-board video recorders.”

Initially, Anderson’s involvement with Initek stemmed from seeking solutions for specific issues in his family-run company. This collaboration has grown into a significant partnership.

Engineering and Innovation

Coming from a stint in petroleum engineering, Anderson joined his family’s business in Greenville, Pennsylvania, in 2017.

“I don’t have a programming degree, but I do have an engineering background,” he shares. “It’s helped me understand how to leverage technology and data to improve daily operations at Anderson Coach & Travel.”

He emphasizes the importance of staff support for the successful integration of technology, noting that inspiring change and encouraging innovation among team members are crucial.

“One of the challenges is getting team members to change their habits. With that said, they are also the greatest source for innovation inspiration. I am constantly reminding them to question our procedures of ‘Why do we do it this way?’” Anderson adds.

With a forward-thinking approach, Anderson is eager to support the motorcoach industry in adopting more effective data management strategies. “Our industry is filled with smart, efficient, and innovative people,” he says. “I love learning from peers at trade shows and workshops. Everyone is trying to share ideas and best practices to move the industry forward. Now I have a platform to showcase mine.”

Excited about playing a pivotal role at a rapidly growing company, Anderson looks forward to influencing further technology adoption. “Initek has grown exponentially, and I’m excited to become a strategic adviser, helping connect them with operators and educating the industry that power over their data is essential.”
