Kreskin Torres, a U.S. Army veteran from Baltimore turned food blogger, has found a unique way to explore the United States—by blending his love for food and travel with ridesharing. Known as the “Rideshare Foodie,” Torres has been on the road since 2018, visiting every state and sampling local cuisines while giving passengers a lift along the way.
“I left on Super Bowl Sunday, and I had this idea to travel the country and wanted to see the United States,” said Torres, reflecting on the start of his cross-country odyssey.
Using his car as both a mode of transportation and a source of income, Torres drives for rideshare services to fund his adventures. His passengers don’t just help him finance his trips; they also influence his destinations.
“The longest trip I’ve ever had was from Wichita, Kansas, all the way to Kenneth, Missouri,” Torres shared.
That eight-hour ride left quite an impression on Torres. “It was a truck driver and his wife. They had been in an accident the night before and were originally supposed to be going to a hotel. Before the guy gets in, he asked me, ‘Hey buddy, let me ask you a question. How much would you charge us to take us all the way…to Missouri?’ I was like, ‘Well, this is your lucky day,’ because those were the kind of trips I’m looking for,” recalled Torres.
Exploring West Michigan’s Culinary Scene
On a recent stop in West Michigan, Torres used recommendations from followers on social media, as well as tips from his passengers, to explore local food spots. Starting in Detroit, he tried Green Lantern pizza, Mom’s Spaghetti, and, of course, the iconic Coney Dogs.
When he reached Grand Rapids, his first stop was Robinette’s, where he indulged in their cider and donuts. By the end of his West Michigan visit, Mackinac Island Fudge stood out as his favorite treat.
Driven by Curiosity and Connection
Beyond the food itself, Torres’ hunger for knowledge and new experiences fuels his travels. Over the years, he has spent time on 23 Native American reservations and was even invited to live with an Amish family in Ohio, experiences that have deeply enriched his understanding of different cultures.
“It’s opened up doors and opportunities from actually experiencing culture, simply because I’m taking an interest in people,” shared Torres.
