Limo Association Introduces Tip Line to Combat Unlicensed Drivers

The Long Island Limousine Association (LILA) launches a tip line to report unlicensed drivers, ensuring passenger safety and promoting licensed limousine services during the busy holiday season.

The Long Island Limousine Association (LILA), an organization representing over 70 professional limousine companies, has launched a dedicated tip line aimed at addressing the issue of unlicensed drivers.

This initiative has been introduced during the bustling holiday season, a period when LILA strongly encourages using licensed transportation services for trips to the airport, holiday parties, and other destinations. By making safety the priority, LILA emphasizes the importance of hiring accredited operators.

“When you hire an unlicensed operator, you are putting you and your loved ones at risk by not always having an idea of who your driver really is, or what their driving record is like,” stated LILA’s 2nd Vice President, Jim Powers, of All Star Limousine, in a press release discussing the program.

To prioritize passenger safety, licensed vehicle operators must meet several requirements, including background checks, comprehensive driving record reviews, and registration with governing bodies such as the Nassau or Suffolk County Department of Consumer Affairs and the New York State Department of Transportation. Additionally, licensed operators are mandated to carry proper livery insurance, ensuring passengers are safeguarded against liability in case of an accident, according to LILA.

Passengers are advised to verify a vehicle’s credentials before boarding. A valid license plate will be labeled with “T&LC” or “Livery,” indicating that the vehicle is legally licensed.

Individuals can report any suspected unlicensed operations via LILA’s tip line at 631-944-8448 or by emailing [email protected]. Reports will be reviewed by the Long Island Limousine Association and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for further investigation, LILA noted.
