This Women-Only Rideshare Is Changing the Game in Las Vegas

Megan Hjelle, the founder of Alegna, introduced this service in 2023 after facing personal challenges with traditional rideshare experiences. She envisioned a solution where safety, comfort, and community take priority—providing women with a rideshare option that not only gets them from point A to point B but also supports and empowers them.

“Our services range from regular trips like airport rides to appointments,” Hjelle explains. “Sometimes, we even lend emotional support when needed, whether it’s holding a hand or simply being there for our riders.”

How Alegna Stands Out

Unlike other rideshare platforms, Alegna implements strict safety precautions to ensure security for both drivers and passengers. Every ride must be booked at least 24 hours in advance through a call, text, or email. Both drivers and riders undergo thorough vetting processes to create a trusting and comfortable environment.

After receiving many requests from women in cities like Las Vegas, Michigan, and Los Angeles, Hjelle decided to expand Alegna’s services to meet the demand.

For local Las Vegas resident Monica Martinez Simmons, this service fills a pressing void in the rideshare market.

“We all have different life experiences and I think it’s all about especially for young women feeling very comfortable about who they’re driving with,” Simmons explained. “We find ourselves in areas that aren’t familiar to us and I think it’s a matter of comfort and safety for women.”

Alegna also proves highly valuable service for women with demanding schedules. Grace Howland highlights the convenience it offers.

“When I was working and I was pregnant and I would take it when the walk was very far and feeling too big and ever since my car crashed, I’ve been taking Uber or Lyft,” Howland said.

Hjelle views Alegna as much more than just a rideshare service. It’s about fostering a community where women support and inspire each other.

“It’s about supporting, empowering. It’s about encouraging other women to create a legacy for themselves that when they do leave this world, people can smile when they hear their names, people can smile when they know I was a part of that woman’s life and helped her whether that was physically, mentally, whatever that looks like,” Hjelle said.
