Fisker’s Electric SUVs Return to the Roads as Rideshare Rentals

A fleet of Fisker Ocean SUVs has found a new purpose as rideshare rentals in New York City, thanks to an innovative move by American Lease. These vehicles left stranded following Fisker’s bankruptcy in 2024, have been given a second chance to shine.

American Lease made a bold purchase, acquiring around 3,000 Fisker Oceans at approximately $13,000 per vehicle. As noted in bankruptcy filings, the total deal amounted to $42.5 million. Now, the cars are being offered to Uber and Lyft drivers for as little as $399 per month. This initiative aligns with New York City’s ambitious goal of transitioning its rideshare fleet to 100% electric vehicles by 2030.

The BHP Service Center, a well-established repair shop in the Bronx, supports this fleet’s ongoing operations. BHP has stepped up to ensure these Fisker Electric SUVs stay roadworthy, expertly handling maintenance and parts management.

“I feel lucky that I get to be the one to work with American Lease,” explained Ronen, also known as Roni, who owns BHP and has been part of New York’s taxi service industry for 25 years. “There have been no accidents yet – thank God,” he added. However, Roni is already preparing for future demands, knowing maintenance needs will inevitably increase.

To address these needs, BHP has proactively stockpiled parts through various means. The shop has sourced spares directly from Fisker, manufactured components in-house, and even acquired damaged Ocean SUVs to use for parts inventory. However, Roni remains focused on the primary goal of supporting American Lease. “I’ve had private owners ask for parts, and I’ve had to turn them away,” he remarked. “American Lease has to come first.”

As New York City ramps up its push for EV rideshare vehicles, the collaboration between American Lease and BHP Service Center ensures this unconventional electric SUV fleet has the support it needs to keep running smoothly.

Whether these Fisker Oceans will lead the charge for EV rideshare fleets remains to be seen. Still, their resurgence on NYC streets is a testament to ingenuity and adaptability in the face of challenge.
