Fort Bragg Launches Innovative Ride-Share Pilot Program

A groundbreaking new pilot program is underway at Fort Bragg as the U.S. Army partners with leading ride-share services to enhance transportation options for soldiers, their families, retirees, and civilians. This initiative aims to deliver a seamless, secure, and dependable ride-share experience, addressing long-standing transportation challenges within military communities. By working closely with ride-share industry leaders, Fort Bragg is paving the way for improved mobility while maintaining stringent safety protocols.

“This program demonstrates our commitment to addressing the challenges faced by our military communities,” said Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll. “Through collaboration with the ride-share industry, we’re able to provide our Soldiers and their families with safe, reliable, and convenient transportation options that support their unique needs and enhance their overall quality of life.”

Ensuring Transportation Security and Safety

A core component of this program is ensuring security remains uncompromised. All ride-share drivers will undergo thorough vetting, including background checks via the FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Terrorist Screening Database. Additionally, drivers will be required to display their ride-sharing credentials on their phones and state their purpose for accessing Fort Bragg. These measures aim to streamline the process while upholding the safety standards of the installation.

“This pilot is our response to see if we can safely collaborate with the ride-share industry to simplify transportation options for everyone living on, working on, or even visiting our camps, posts, and installations,” explained Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Weimer. “We heard you and agree—it shouldn’t be so hard to coordinate transportation onto our installations, but also in and around some of our larger ones.”

Scaling the Initiative for a Broader Impact

Should the pilot prove successful, the Army plans to expand this program to other installations nationwide. By developing these partnerships, the Army envisions a future where military communities have greater freedom of movement and access to essential transportation options. Fort Bragg takes the lead in this effort, showcasing the Army’s ongoing dedication to innovation and improving the day-to-day lives of the military community.

“We are proud to partner with the Army to expand rideshare operations for service members and their families,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “This initiative underscores Uber’s commitment to reliable transportation access and will help to strengthen connections with surrounding communities and boost the local economies around these bases.”

Looking Ahead

For the Fort Bragg community, this program signals a positive shift. Enhanced transportation options will contribute to improved quality of life for residents on and around the base, while fostering stronger ties with nearby communities. With Fort Bragg setting the standard, this initiative could soon bring nationwide benefits to military personnel and their families, reinforcing the Army’s commitment to their well-being.
