Maurice and Rhonda Brewster, co-founders of Mosaic Global Transportation, attended their first UMA Motorcoach EXPO with a memorable moment to celebrate. They were honored with the prestigious 2024 UMA Environmental Leadership Award.
“I’ll be back,” quipped Maurice, Mosaic’s CEO, during his acceptance speech.
The Brewsters joined the United Motorcoach Association (UMA) during the pandemic, encouraged by peers in the industry. Their experience at the annual conference and trade show in Oklahoma City exceeded expectations.
“We have been pleasantly surprised,” Maurice shared. “A lot of people saw us on stage, which gave us great credibility.”

Driving Sustainability Forward
Mosaic’s dedication to sustainability has been years in the making. The company has implemented fleet electrification, constructed fast-charging stations, and embedded sustainable practices into its operations. These efforts led to their recognition with the UMA award, thanks in part to a nomination from ABC Companies, a long-term industry partner.
Headquartered in San Jose, California, Mosaic operates five locations across northern and southern California. It employs over 140 people and manages a fleet of 101 vehicles, including motorcoaches, mini-coaches, sprinters, and transit vans.
From Luxury to Leadership
Mosaic’s story began 23 years ago when Maurice transitioned from a career in data networks to entrepreneurship with his wife, Rhonda. Initially, the company offered luxury vehicle services, starting with vintage Rolls-Royce cars.
As demand grew, the couple pivoted to limousines and eventually motorcoaches, requiring heightened safety and compliance measures.
“If we could be successful in the limousine and ground transportation space, I felt that we could do the same thing in the motorcoach space,” Maurice explained.
Now, Mosaic’s mission includes making impactful strides toward environmental sustainability.
A Commitment to Green Innovation
“Our commitment to improving the environment began coming out of COVID,” Maurice said. “We know that we are one of the biggest negative contributors to our environment with (internal combustion) vehicles.”
This shift also aligned with increasing customer demands for eco-friendly practices, with major clients such as Apple leading the charge.
“My mama didn’t raise no fool,” Maurice quipped during his speech. “When your largest customer says they want to be sustainable by 2030, what do you think we’re going to do?”
Mosaic responded by investing over $1.5 million in infrastructure, including 14 Volvo EX90 electric sedans and enough DC fast chargers to support 28 vehicles simultaneously. These investments enable the company to meet client needs while reducing emissions.
Industry Recognition
Tom Wagner, Vice President of Private Sector Sales at Motor Coach Industries (MCI), presented the award on behalf of MCI, which sponsors the UMA Environmental Leadership Award.
“This award was created to highlight how motorcoaches are a vital solution to reducing carbon emissions and to celebrate companies setting new standards in environmental leadership,” Wagner explained.
Wagner praised Mosaic for integrating electric and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, planning to convert 60% of the CNG fleet over the next decade. He also highlighted the company’s use of advanced route optimization, EV charging capabilities, and commitment to water conservation through bio-cleaning solutions.
“Mosaic is helping shape the transportation industry’s future through their work with California’s Energize program and their efforts to deploy zero-emission technology,” Wagner stated.
Beyond operational sustainability, Mosaic works with local organizations to promote cleaner air and healthier communities, reinforcing its role as both an industry leader and a community partner.
Clients Who Care
Mosaic’s sustainability efforts have helped them attract high-profile clients, including JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Google, and eBay. The company also handles transportation for Disneyland.
“We’re the official transportation provider for Disneyland,” Maurice noted. “We operate 24 compressed natural gas vehicles that move Disney cast members around the clock, every day of the year.”
A Partnership Built on Love
Maurice and Rhonda’s collaboration extends beyond business.
“We fell in love at work. We were paired as co-partners,” Maurice shared. “Her strengths are in detail-oriented tasks, and I focus on building strategic relationships. Together we make it work!”
Their strong partnership and active involvement in UMA have driven Mosaic’s success.
“We joined UMA right after COVID. We had let our membership lapse and got back into the swing of things in 2022,” Brewster said. “Everyone I was meeting was a part of UMA and asking, ‘Are you guys a part of it?’ We saw a value in doing this.”
Setting a Higher Standard
For Maurice, sustainability isn’t just about meeting client demands or regulatory requirements. It’s about raising the bar for the entire transportation industry.
“We’re committed to doing our part to clean our environment and create a sustainable future,” he emphasized.
