Charlotte’s Women-Led Rideshare App Redefines Safety

A new rideshare option, Just Her Rideshare, has emerged in Charlotte, offering a woman-centered platform designed to enhance safety for female drivers and passengers.

Why It Matters

“We’re here to offer peace of mind,” shared Kimberly Evans, the company’s founder, stressing that the platform prioritizes the safety of its community. The app is specifically tailored to create secure experiences for both drivers and riders across the Carolinas.

The Backstory

For Evans, the issue of safety hits close to home. Back in 1987, a friend of hers was abducted while she waited for a ride. Years later, as rideshare giants began to dominate headlines, disturbing cases, such as the murder of a University of South Carolina student, reignited her concerns. These incidents led her to avoid using rideshare services for years.

Motivated to create a solution, Evans launched Just Her Rideshare in 2020, making safety the foundation of her company. “Uber and Lyft had become so big that I knew they had lost touch with what it looks like to create a safe ride for women,” said Evans.

What Sets It Apart

Functioning similarly to other rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft, Her Rideshare distinguishes itself with one critical feature: all drivers are women.

  • Driver Requirements: Drivers must be at least 21 years old, pass both background and driving record checks and have access to a four-door car with five seat belts no more than 15 years old.
  • Customizable Rides: Riders can personalize their experience by leaving notes for their driver, such as requesting a quiet ride, setting a comfortable car temperature, or even specifying their preferred music genre.

Notably, while the service is female-focused, drivers can also serve passengers who do not identify as female, giving them flexibility.

The app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play Store, making it easy for users to get started.

Bigger Picture

The platform has already gained traction, with 2,000+ drivers operating in seven cities, including Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Durham, Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville. There are also plans to expand into Washington, D.C., and nearby regions in the coming months.

By focusing on safety as a core value, Just Her Rideshare is helping to redefine what secure transportation looks like for women.
