Nashville Airport Moves Rideshare Drop-Offs Away from Terminal Doors — Here’s What Drivers Need to Know

If you drive for Uber, Lyft, or any other rideshare platform in Nashville, there’s a big change coming your way at the airport — and it started June 3 at 12:01 a.m.

Starting then, all rideshare drivers heading to Nashville International Airport (BNA) will be required to drop passengers off at the Ground Transportation Center, not the terminal curb.

No more pulling up directly in front of Terminal One for a quick drop-off. Instead, drivers will head to the bottom level of Garage Two, where the Ground Transportation Center is located. From there, passengers will walk a short path along the sidewalk, cross the street, and take the escalator, elevator, or stairs up to the main terminal area for check-in and security.

What Rideshare Drivers Should Expect

This update might stir some frustration among travelers — after all, a few have already expressed annoyance about the 10-minute-or-less walk from the Ground Transportation Center when being picked up. Now, they’ll make that same walk before check-in, too.

As a driver, you’ll want to factor in this new process when setting expectations with riders. According to airport spokesperson Erin Thomas, “Travelers utilizing ride-share services to BNA are encouraged to take this brief walk into consideration when making plans for when their ride-share driver will pick them up and take them to BNA.”

Why the Change? Here’s What BNA Is Saying

Nashville International Airport made the official announcement on May 29, saying the goal is to streamline traffic, reduce curbside congestion, and help rideshare drivers earn more efficiently.

“These upgrades play a vital role in BNA’s broader long-term infrastructure plan, designed to enhance airport accessibility, efficiency, and overall traveler experience,” airport officials said in a statement.

The shift is part of BNA’s massive multi-year overhaul. Since 2017, more than $4.49 billion has been poured into airport improvements, including road expansions, new parking facilities, and the Concourse D extension.

Good News for Friends and Family Drop-Offs

This new rule only applies to rideshare drivers. If someone’s dropping off a friend or family member, they can still use the terminal curb like always. And with rideshare vehicles rerouted, the airport says curbside congestion should decrease, making things smoother for everyone else.

A Potential Win for Driver Efficiency

From the airport’s perspective, this isn’t just about passenger flow — it’s about helping rideshare drivers work smarter.

By centralizing both pick-ups and drop-offs at the Ground Transportation Center, drivers no longer have to exit the airport after a drop-off and circle back through traffic to re-enter for a pick-up. Instead, they can remain in the same area, reducing downtime and potentially completing more rides per hour.

The airport believes this change will “help rideshare drivers maximize their earning potential.”

Whether it’s your first run of the day or your last, it’s worth planning and communicating clearly with riders about the updated drop-off point — and keeping an eye on how these changes might help streamline your airport trips in the long run.
