Rideshare Drivers Face $500 Fines for Ignoring Drop-Off Rules in Arlington’s Entertainment District

Rideshare drivers operating in Arlington’s bustling Entertainment District—home to major attractions like Globe Life Field, AT&T Stadium, Texas Live!, Choctaw Stadium, and the National Medal of Honor Museum—are now facing steep penalties if they don’t follow the city’s updated pickup and drop-off rules.

To improve safety and streamline traffic during major events, Arlington’s City Council unanimously approved a new $500 fine for drivers who stop outside designated rideshare zones. These changes are part of a broader initiative aimed at curbing traffic bottlenecks and unsafe passenger exchanges in the area.

The designated pickup and drop-off zones remain in place: drivers using services like Uber, Lyft, and Via are expected to utilize Lot C for Globe Life Field and Lot 15 for AT&T Stadium.

According to a statement from the Arlington Police Department, “Whenever we host a Cowboys game, Rangers game, or other major event, one of our primary goals is to get the thousands of visitors who attend those events in and out of the Entertainment District as safely and efficiently as possible.”

Police say the new fine gives them an enforcement tool to deal with drivers who stop in unsafe or prohibited areas, which can lead to traffic disruption and put pedestrians at risk. The city last updated the rideshare map in December, making its first significant changes since the opening of Globe Life Field—including adding new restricted zones.

“Following events, we often have traffic control measures in place such as lane closures and one-way roadways to help facilitate the mass exit of fans from the entertainment district,” the police explained in their email to KERA. “As a result, a rideshare driver may not be able to navigate to where their rider is if that rider is at a non-designated location around the stadiums.”

The confusion caused when riders wait outside the proper zones not only frustrates passengers but also delays drivers and complicates law enforcement’s efforts to manage the flow of people and vehicles. By sticking to the official drop-off points, officials say, drivers can help make the entire experience safer and more efficient for everyone.

Arlington isn’t alone in implementing strict rideshare policies. Similar measures have been adopted in other high-traffic entertainment zones throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, including Fort Worth’s West 7th district.

For rideshare drivers working in or around the Arlington Entertainment District, the takeaway is clear: know the designated zones, use them, and avoid a $500 mistake.
