If you’re a barbecue lover, Kansas City may already be on your radar. But recently, the traveling foodie known as the ‘Rideshare Foodie’ made a pit stop to put KC’s BBQ to the test.
Kreskin Torres, the man behind the title, has embarked on a one-of-a-kind adventure. His mission? To travel across all 50 states as a rideshare driver, tasting regional cuisines while connecting with locals. Hailing from Baltimore, Torres is exploring more than just food; he’s immersing himself in the culture, history, and stories of communities across the nation.
“Push the food stuff aside, it’s just a great way to connect with different people,” Torres explains.
A Journey Across America in Search of Local Flavor
Torres has made it his life’s mission to explore America through its flavors. From Utah’s unique dirty soda to Rhode Island’s classic coffee milk and Nebraska’s surprising pairing of chili and cinnamon rolls, Torres has discovered some extraordinary eats that highlight each state’s character.
Kansas City’s BBQ Scene Makes a Lasting Impression
Last week, Torres arrived in Kansas City, also known as the Heart of America, to sample its famous barbecue offerings. Among his stops were iconic spots like Jack Stack, Arthur Bryant’s, Gate’s, and the beloved Joe’s Kansas City. He also had a first-time experience trying burnt ends, a Kansas City BBQ specialty.
While he enjoyed all his stops, Slap’s BBQ clinched the title of his favorite KC spot.
After tasting everything Kansas City had to offer, Torres shared that, in his opinion, Kansas City BBQ takes a close second to Texas BBQ. But his KC adventure isn’t over yet.
“I’m going to be back because I found out you all have some burnt-end tacos,” Torres teased.
Torres’ Future Plans and Next Adventures
Torres has big aspirations for the future. Next year, he plans to spearhead an event that brings together food trucks and small vendors representing all 50 states. Imagine the culinary diversity that will be on display!
But before that happens, he hopes to return to Kansas City to visit the new restaurant launched by two local legends, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
