DATTCO Marks 100 Years with a Forward-Facing Fleet Upgrade

Celebrating a century in business, DATTCO Inc. has once again proven that honoring the past doesn’t mean standing still. In June 2025, the New Britain, Connecticut-based transportation company welcomed three new Prevost X3-45 motorcoaches into its fleet—an investment that signals the company’s future-focused momentum.

While 2024 marked DATTCO’s 100th anniversary, the milestone wasn’t just about looking back on its legacy. The company took the opportunity to expand its capabilities and modernize its operations, solidifying its place among New England’s leading motorcoach providers.

According to Don DeVivo, President of DATTCO and part of the family’s second generation to lead the company, the addition of these new coaches was not only long overdue but also an intentional shift. “The X3-45 opened up possibilities for us,” he said. “Its lower profile means we can now serve key hubs like Logan without compromise.”

Designed for New England’s Infrastructure

DATTCO isn’t new to the Prevost brand. The company ran an H3-45 model in the late 1990s, but the taller coach posed limitations in areas with older infrastructure. Narrow bridges and low-clearance roadways near Logan and JFK airports created routing challenges that the taller vehicles simply couldn’t avoid.

With the Prevost X3-45, that restriction is gone. The lower-profile build makes it easier to maneuver through some of the region’s busiest and most complicated transportation corridors.

Comfortable for Riders, Functional for Drivers

Although the X3-45 has long been viewed as a workhorse for commuter service, DATTCO’s new coaches were spec’d to match the company’s existing tour fleet in comfort and design.

“These new coaches are every bit as refined and rider-friendly as the others in our fleet,” said Dennis Lyons, Vice President of DATTCO’s Coach & Tour Group. “They ride smoothly, the driver’s area is intuitive, and our test drivers gave them great feedback.”

A Delivery Day to Remember

When DeVivo and Lyons traveled to the Prevost facility in Ste. Claire, Quebec, to receive the new coaches, they weren’t expecting a low-key event. But even still, the welcome left an impression.

“It felt like a rock concert,” DeVivo said with a laugh. “They had music, a drone flying overhead, smoke machines—the whole experience. I even got to ring a bell. The hospitality and the factory itself were incredibly impressive.”

The delivery day celebration added a human touch to an already strong business relationship.

Adjusting to a New Engine

The Prevost X3-45s come equipped with the Volvo D13 engine—something new for the DATTCO maintenance team, which has historically worked with Cummins engines. But thanks to extensive support from Prevost, the transition has been smooth.

“The Volvo engine is new territory for us, but the training has been fantastic,” DeVivo said. “Prevost techs walked us through the entire vehicle bumper to bumper, and they’ll be doing another round of training with our larger team in August.”

It’s the kind of thorough, personal support DATTCO values.

“Prevost’s people – from sales to service – know buses,” DeVivo added. “They’re genuine, down-to-earth, and easy to work with.”

New Coaches Already on the Road

The newly delivered motorcoaches officially began service on July 9, with more scheduled to arrive in early 2026. As DATTCO turns the page on its first 100 years, these additions represent more than a fleet upgrade—they’re a continuation of the company’s long-standing commitment to reliability, innovation, and customer experience.
