For years, one of the biggest frustrations for motorcoach operators has been the lack of reliable, real-time data to guide decisions. Brian Dickson, owner of Bus Business Consultants LLC and longtime contributor to Bus & Motorcoach News, has now taken that issue to video format through his Ground Transportation Insights Substack.
The first video installment features a candid discussion with Louis Bookoff, co-founder of Busie, where the two break down how this industry-wide “data gap” impacts everything from profitability to customer service.
“Too often, operators are forced to manage reactively simply because critical information arrives too late,” Dickson said. “Better technology and stronger operational practices can help close that gap.”
The conversation goes beyond theory, focusing on how delayed or incomplete performance data can hold back operators trying to stay competitive. Bookoff and Dickson emphasize practical approaches that companies can implement right away to gain better visibility and respond faster.
Since Ground Transportation Insights launched earlier this year, Dickson has published more than 35 articles covering leadership, team culture, management strategies, and productivity. With over 20 years in transportation—including leadership roles with Disney Transportation, Coach America, and All Aboard America Holdings—he uses the platform to share lessons learned, elevate new voices in the industry, and provide tools that help operators strengthen their business practices.
The video, titled “You Spoke, We’re Addressing: Closing the Data Gap,” is now available on Substack for subscribers looking to learn how better data can drive better decisions.
