If you’ve been thinking about making the jump to an electric vehicle (EV) for rideshare driving, Colorado’s latest incentives could make it hard to pass up. With significant savings, hands-on test drive opportunities, and added earning potential, going electric has never been more accessible for drivers.
Uber, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE), has launched a new program aimed at helping drivers transition to EVs.
Here’s what the program offers:
- Earn up to $2,000 – Drivers can earn $100 for every 100 trips completed in an EV, up to a total of $2,000.
- Guidance along the way – Support is available to help navigate everything from vehicle selection to charging.
- Test before committing – A dedicated EV test drive event is coming up for Uber drivers.
These incentives can be combined with Colorado’s state benefits, a tax credit of up to $6,000 for a new EV and another $6,000 for trading in an older vehicle, along with the federal EV tax credit of up to $7,500. The federal credit ends September 30, 2025, meaning eligible drivers could save as much as $21,500.
EV drivers working with Uber can also qualify for extra earnings through the Zero Emissions incentive — $210 for every 200 EV trips completed within 30 days. Certain EV models also open access to Uber Green and Comfort Electric, which may increase trip requests.
Hands-On EV Experience – August 27
Drivers interested in trying an EV before buying can head to the Lowry Conference Center on August 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. MST for a special EV experience day. The event will feature:
- Rides in multiple EV models
- One-on-one time with EV experts to answer questions
- Information on charging, costs, and day-to-day driving
- On-site help with understanding the incentive program
This program supports Governor Polis’ Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Roadmap, which outlines Colorado’s plan to cut emissions statewide. A core part of that plan is the Clean Fleet Enterprise, which helps Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) like Uber expand zero-emission vehicle use. Funded by a $2 million grant from the CDPHE, the initiative aims to make EV adoption easier and more affordable for drivers.
With these combined state and federal programs, Colorado rideshare drivers have a unique window to explore EVs, increase potential earnings, and contribute to cleaner air for the communities they serve.
