Best Buy Teams Up with Uber to Bring Same-Day Tech Deliveries

Uber is expanding beyond passenger rides and meal drop-offs, and now it’s tapping into electronics. The company has partnered with Best Buy to offer same-day deliveries of gadgets, appliances, and more through the Uber Eats app.

The partnership, launched Tuesday (Sept. 2), covers about 800 Best Buy locations. That means a customer can order a phone, laptop, or gaming gear and have it delivered to their doorstep the same day — with Uber drivers handling the runs.

“Consumers today expect everything from groceries to gadgets to arrive at their doorsteps quickly and reliably,” said Hashim Amin, head of grocery and retail for North America at Uber. “With this partnership, Uber Eats and Best Buy are making it easier than ever for customers to access the latest technology, whether it’s a necessity or something fun. We’re thrilled to help bring Best Buy’s trusted assortment into the on-demand economy.”

For drivers, this highlights how Uber is broadening the kinds of trips available beyond food and retail — creating more ways to stay busy on the road. To promote the launch, Uber Eats is offering $20 off Best Buy orders of $60 or more with the code BESTBUY10. Uber One members will still get $0 delivery fees on eligible orders, plus other perks.

This deal comes right after Uber announced a delivery partnership with Dollar Tree, showing the company’s push to grow in suburban and rural areas — places where passenger ride demand can be unpredictable.

On the Best Buy side, the company just posted its best sales growth in three years, with a 1.6% increase. Hot items included computers, phones, headphones, wearables, and the newly released Nintendo Switch 2. Even so, Best Buy says it’s sticking with its cautious outlook because of ongoing uncertainty with tariffs.

“Given the uncertainty of potential tariff impacts in the back half, both on consumers overall as well as our business, we feel it is prudent to maintain the annual guidance we provided last quarter,” Best Buy CEO Corie Barry said on an earnings call.

The retailer is projecting revenue for the year between $41.1 billion and $41.9 billion, holding steady with its May forecast.

For rideshare and delivery drivers, partnerships like this are worth watching. They show how Uber is leaning harder into the delivery side of the business. PYMNTS recently noted that while both Uber and Lyft reported strong growth this year, their strategies are diverging.

“Uber is tightening the feedback loop between ride-hailing and on-demand delivery, while Lyft is buying, partnering and piloting its way into new territories, modes and (eventually) driverless cars,” that report said. “The contrast is setting up a strategic duel that will see whose growth engine will scale faster in a market where customer expectations, regulatory scrutiny, and capital intensity are on the rise.”

For drivers, that duel could shape where the best opportunities are — whether it’s more passengers, more packages, or a balance of both.

Meta Description: Best Buy has joined forces with Uber Eats to launch same-day electronics delivery from 800 stores. Here’s what rideshare and delivery drivers need to know about this new partnership, its impact on earnings, and how Uber is expanding beyond food and passengers.
