Don King’s Custom Sprinter Limousine Hits the Auction Block

Boxing promoter Don King’s 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500, converted into a limousine, has gone up for auction and is drawing heavy bidding interest.

The vehicle, which shows just 15,100 miles, has already attracted 27 bids with the top offer standing at $35,250 ahead of its Thursday closing.

Far from a standard van, this Sprinter was designed as a rolling VIP lounge. Inside are diamond-stitched upholstery, a suede headliner, wood-style plank flooring, a flatscreen TV, a custom sound system, champagne glass holders, a bar with accent lighting, and even a wireless intercom system.

King, now 94, is regarded as one of boxing’s most influential promoters. Born in Cleveland in August 1931, he was the fifth of six children and grew up helping his mother sell pies and roasted peanuts. He briefly attended Kent State University before leaving school and moving into boxing promotion in the early 1970s.

His career took off in 1974 when he promoted the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire. The following year, he staged the historic “Thrilla in Manila” between Ali and Joe Frazier in the Philippines.

Over the decades, King worked with an impressive roster of champions, including Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes, Roberto Durán, Julio César Chávez, Bernard Hopkins, and Félix Trinidad. He helped bring major fights to audiences worldwide and remains a towering figure in the history of the sport.

The auction for his custom Sprinter limousine closes Thursday.
