When a group of friends ordered an Uber, they expected nothing more than a routine trip. Instead, they got an experience that has since gone viral—thanks to an unexpected four-legged co-pilot.
The moment was captured by Thomas “Blysk” Kopankiewicz and shared on TikTok via his account @heythomask on August 23. Within seconds of getting into the car, Kopankiewicz says the driver turned around with an unusual question: “Are you scared of dogs?”
A little unsure of where the conversation was headed, the passengers all replied that they weren’t. That’s when the driver reached down, scooped up his small dog Sheila, and handed her into the backseat.
A Dog With a Job to Do
According to the driver, Sheila doesn’t like being on the highway. Having passengers cuddle her helps keep her calm. For the group of riders, the surprise was more than welcome.
“We were all just excited to be honest,” Kopankiewicz told Newsweek through TikTok. “We were luckily all pet lovers and had no allergies.”
The video shows Sheila making herself at home right away, settling into a passenger’s lap as laughter fills the car.
A Smart Ploy—or Just Pure Sweetness?
While the riders couldn’t stop gushing over how cute Sheila was, Kopankiewicz had his own theory about what was really going on.
“I think she was just plotting to get some cuddles while her owner drives,” he joked.
Whether it was a clever scheme for attention or not, the passengers happily obliged. The tiny pup was showered with affection all ride long, and the driver walked away with a perfect five-star rating.
TikTok Responds With Envy
Since being uploaded, the clip has gained significant online attention, racking up more than 1.2 million views, 175,300 likes, and over 130 comments. Many viewers admitted they wished the same thing would happen to them on their next Uber trip.
“This is how I’d get kidnapped,” one commenter wrote.
Another joked: “Oh, he’s getting a 100 percent tip from me.”
And plenty of dog lovers agreed with the idea of making this a permanent feature. “That’s it, they need an option to request an Uber with a dog. I need a dog friend every ride now lol,” one person added.
Uber’s Pet Policies
For riders hoping to have their own furry companion on board, Uber does have options. Through Uber Pet, passengers can bring a cat or dog along for the ride without restrictions on breed or size. Service animals are also permitted at no extra cost.
Uber notes that because drivers are independent contractors, they may also choose to travel with their own pets. Drivers are still responsible for maintaining safety in the vehicle, and any concerns about animals can be reported directly to Uber.
Newsweek confirmed it had reached out to the company for further comment.

Between the passengers’ surprise, Sheila’s comfort-seeking snuggles, and the internet’s reaction, it’s clear this wasn’t just another rideshare trip. For many viewers, it sparked the dream of Uber introducing a brand-new feature: rides that come with a built-in dog companion.
