If you have ever juggled long shifts, tight schedules, and built a client base, you will appreciate the story behind Camryn Limousine out of Charlottesville, Virginia. This year, the company is celebrating two decades in business, a milestone built on hustle, respect, and steady growth.
Founder Bill Kerr did not start in transportation full-time. He launched the company while serving as a professional firefighter, working shifts at the station and driving on the side to learn the business firsthand.
“I was a firefighter until three years ago. I drove part-time while I was fighting fires and found that I really liked the industry. I did things the right way, and told the owner of the company I drove for that I was considering branching out on my own. He respected that, and to this day, we are friendly competitors,” says Kerr.
The company name, Camryn, comes from his daughter. Kerr started small, running two Lincoln Town Cars from the early 2000s. Not long after, he added a stretch from Executive Coach Builders to meet growing demand. Over time, he expanded the fleet from a couple of sedans to 23 vehicles, including everything from executive cars to a 28-passenger coach.
Those early years meant working two demanding jobs at once, but Kerr credits his team for keeping the operation moving while he was on shift. He points to longtime employees like Barbara Morris, who has been with the company nearly 20 years, as key to keeping things stable and growing.
To mark the 20th anniversary, Kerr personally delivered gifts to every chauffeur and staff member.
“You do good things and it all comes around,” he says. “I am a fortunate man. God has truly blessed us.”
