California Bus Association Celebrates Industry Leaders at Annual Convention

California Bus Association honored top leaders, drivers, and technicians at its annual convention in Visalia. See who earned awards for excellence, safety, and leadership in California’s motorcoach industry.

California’s motorcoach community came together last month for the annual California Bus Association (CBA) convention and tradeshow. The three-day event focused on practical insights for drivers, operators, and technicians, covering safety, compliance, operational strategies, and evolving marketing approaches.

Keynote speaker Justin Osmond of the famous Osmond family inspired attendees with a story of perseverance and purpose, resonating with industry professionals who continue to adapt to shifting market demands and post-pandemic recovery.

During the CBA business meeting, the Board of Directors renewed several terms and welcomed Fahri Cimen of Highline Charter to fill the vacancy left by Mike Waters of Coach USA.

The convention also featured an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions across the motorcoach industry. Highlights include:

Operator of the Year: Ebmeyer Charter & Tour

Bruce and Dallon Ebmeyer were honored for their company’s 45-plus years of service. Ebmeyer Charter & Tour operates debt-free, owns its fleet, facilities, and properties, and has been praised for reliability, professionalism, and community involvement. Industry peers say the company sets the standard for customer service and operational excellence.

Vickie Cole Memorial Award for Women in Leadership: Jodi Merritt, H & L Charter

Jodi Merritt was recognized for her leadership, mentorship, and operational achievements. Under her guidance, H & L Charter has modernized its fleet, expanded service offerings, and nurtured a culture of safety and teamwork. Merritt also serves on the American Bus Association board and actively supports programs encouraging women in transportation leadership.

Honorary Membership and Lifetime Achievement Award: Mike Waters, Coach USA

Waters received the award for decades of service and lasting impact on California’s motorcoach industry. “Thank you, Mike, for your extraordinary, legendary service and the profound impact you have made on countless members throughout the years,” said CBA President Michael Giddens. “Your legacy is an inspiration to us all.”

Outstanding Maintenance Technician: Willy Wondolowski, Gold Coast Tours

Willy Wondolowski implemented a preventive maintenance program covering 3,000 miles or 45 days, which improved fleet reliability and strengthened safety. He is credited with mentoring technicians and fostering a culture of precision, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Outstanding Driver, Large Company: Jose Retana Valenzuela, Lux Bus America

Valenzuela, a driver for nine years at Lux Bus America, is recognized for his flawless safety record, leadership as a Charter Mentor, and high customer-service ratings. Colleagues credit him with contributing to the company’s first-place finish in a 2022 client roadeo competition.

Outstanding Driver, Small Company: Lonnie Reynolds, H.B. Limo Services

Reynolds has over 30 years of commercial driving experience and more than 15 years as a driver trainer. He operates an FMCSA-approved training facility, mentors new drivers, and volunteers in his community. His patience, professionalism, and guidance have helped countless drivers launch successful careers.

“These individuals and companies exemplify the very best of California’s transportation industry,” said CBA President Michael Giddens. “Their leadership, skill, and professionalism set the standard for all of us.”

The CBA thanked sponsors and partners, with special recognition for corporate partner Prevost. The next CBA convention, marking the 52nd annual meeting, is scheduled for October 25–27, 2026, in Rohnert Park, Sonoma County.
