Uber will resume service at Tweed New Haven Airport in Connecticut on June 17 after reaching a new operating agreement with airport officials, restoring another transportation option for passengers traveling through the airport.

The rideshare company has not operated at Tweed since 2021, when negotiations over airport access fees prevented an agreement from being finalized. Beginning June 17, travelers will once again be able to request Uber rides for airport pickups and drop-offs through the Uber app.

Uber will join Lyft and M7, formerly known as Metro Taxi, as authorized ground transportation providers serving the airport.

New Agreement Brings Uber Back to the Airport

According to airport officials, Uber agreed to a $3 per ride fee to operate at Tweed. The agreement follows several years during which Uber was not authorized to conduct pickups and drop-offs on airport property. During that period, Lyft and M7 continued serving airport passengers.

Airport representatives said the new fee structure will also apply to Lyft, which operates under the same transportation network company classification as Uber. M7 will continue operating under its existing fee structure because it falls under a different classification.

The updated agreement allows passengers to access rides directly from airport property rather than arranging pickups and drop-offs away from designated airport areas.

Additional Transportation Option for Travelers

Tweed is currently served by Avelo Airlines and Breeze Airways.

With Uber returning, travelers will have multiple transportation options available when arriving at or departing from the airport.

Airport Officials Expect Fewer Off-Site Pickups

Airport officials said one challenge during Uber’s absence involved riders and drivers arranging pickups and drop-offs on nearby streets outside airport property.

Because Uber was not authorized to operate directly at the airport, some passengers used locations near the airport to connect with drivers.
